Service as usual; no one there but the family and a few Natives beside Warepoaka. Had some conversation with him respecting Papahurihia; he denied belief in his doctrine.

This is one of the places which has been under the particular domination of Papahurihia, whose Sabbath is on the Saturday.
12 October Kawakawa River
He complained of some of his neighbours who were disciples of Papahurihia and wished me to speak with them, which I did. They were civil, tho boasting in their own abilities. They intend going, in a few days, to Rangihoua where their leaders are . . . . There were many interesting old chiefs who spoke of Papahurihia, and that he was giving ground.
